
Dr. Hellme Abdullah Najim
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr. Hellme Abdulla Najim is an Iraqi and UK- trained consultant psychiatrist with over 43 years’ experience in psychiatry. He strives to be compassionate, thorough, and collaborative in his work, helping every patient with utmost attention and support including preventing, diagnosing, and treating all sorts of mental health issues.
He obtained his undergraduate degree (MB ChB) in 1977 from Mosul Medical School in Iraq (ranked 7th out of 170 batchmates) and then started work in the University Department of Medicine.
After working for a few years in Iraq, he moved to England where he obtained the DPM (Diploma of Psychological Medicine) from the conjoint Royal Board of Physicians and Surgeons in 1983, and in the same year, his MRCPsych (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists).
In 2009 his MRCPsych was upgraded to FRCPsych (Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatry, UK). He became the chairman of the Transcultural Psychiatry Special Interest Group at the Royal College of Psychiatrists (2012-2016).
Dr. Najim has worked as an assistant professor in Psychiatry both at Mosul University, Iraq, and the University of Sanaa, Yemen. He later worked as a Lecturer at the University of Psychiatry, London.
In addition to teaching and practicing psychiatry, Dr. Hellme has published more than 50 papers in international scientific journals and is also a member of the editorial board of six international scientific journals. He has four published books under his name: three in Arabic and one in English.
Dr. Najim developed an interest in positive psychology and motivation and has presented various talks at international conferences.
Dr. Hellme Abdulla Najim holds expertise in all forms of mental health conditions and disorders, but he is mainly interested in the management of general anxiety disorders, panic attacks, depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, schizophrenia, alcohol, and drug abuse, with a special interest in psychopharmacology.
